Hey there!
A little about me:
My name is Sam, and I am the sole author of this blog. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 2019 from Kennesaw State University and have since been putting it to use through this blog, various editing projects, and my endless need to read interesting things and write interesting stuff. Writing and editing are of principal interest to me, not only professionally but also personally.

Among other things, I never turn down the opportunity to head to the mountains. I’m currently living in Atlanta, Georgia, a booming metropolis where the traffic keeps getting heavier; therefore, there’s a constant need to escape to the sprawling landscape of hills and hiking trails of the North. Almost every other post involves some anecdote of a mountainous adventure. Though I don’t prefer the flatter terrains, I do love visiting the coast. Rolling tides can be just as worthy an escape route as rolling hills.
Cars are also high on my list of interests. You are just as likely to see me at some local car meet as you are to see me in the middle of the woods. Before I settled on an English Degree, I was actually on the path to becoming a car designer (my love of words trumped my estranged desire to finally understand fluid dynamics).
Various other bits of my personality and my interests lie in my blog posts but, to give you some more context, I’ve got two dogs and a family I both love and admire; sketching is what I do alongside writing if I get bored now and then; my hair is long and, though I’ve been asked numerous times of when I’m going to cut it, I have no definite plans in the future; I am introverted at heart (INFP, Enneagram 4) and require a large amount of solitude to function correctly. However, if granted too much time alone, I’ll go insane without some sort of meaningful interaction.
A little about the blog:

Many of my friends and family expressed the desire to see me start a blog and, since 2018, Buy My Ticket Home has developed into my creative outlet for literature discussion, nature appreciation, and travel tales. It is my first honest attempt at publishing for an online audience under my actual name as I have guest blogged and ghost-written in prior experiences. It is nerve-wracking but is equally rewarding to have my name attached to work I’m proud to have written.
In these stories lies a little of my passionate love for books, my hopeless romanticism, and an eager sense of adventure, no matter where the trail is located. You should expect to find witticism and somberness within my writing, as well as palpable excitement and a fair bit of sarcasm. Most importantly, I hope to tap into feelings that connect all of us as humans.
The photography* that you see scattered around the site and in the depths of posts is my work. My camera is typically my only partner when I hike out into the hills and forests. Some days nature shows me beautiful things, and I capture them as my only keepsake from those journeys. The pictures you see typically come from all parts of Southern Appalachia, a place I value immensely.
A little about the name:
Buy My Ticket Home gets its name from a short story I created and wrote in college that has since evolved into one of my most favorite creations. It’s about an orphan boy striving to make his way across the French countryside by train. Through his various encounters, listening to strangers’ stories in the station or on the train, he makes a discovery about himself and how he relates to the world around him.

Similar to the character I created, I aim to discover something about myself through my own writing and reflection. It’s an impetus for me to keep digging deeper to not only reflect on my experiences and the world around me but to, most importantly, keep writing.
